Hiring a masonry contractor is a real investment, and it's smart to ask questions before you commit. Below, we've answered the most common things Michigan homeowners ask us before, during, and after a project. If something isn't covered here, give us a call! We're happy to talk through your specific situation.
Scheduling & Quotes
How quickly can I get a quote?
We make it a priority to schedule quotes within 24 to 48 hours of your initial inquiry. We know your time matters, and we don't believe in stringing people along. Reach out today and we'll get you on the schedule fast.
How soon will my project start after the quote?
Most projects are scheduled to begin within 7 to 10 days of the quote. We manage our schedule tightly, so you won't be left wondering when someone's actually going to show up. From the moment you sign, we communicate your timeline clearly and stick to it.
How long will my project take to complete?
Completion time depends on the scope of work. A straightforward brick repair may take a single day; a larger restoration will take longer. What we can tell you is that we don't leave projects half-finished with no end in sight. We give you a realistic timeline upfront and manage the work to meet it. We clearly communicate what you can expect at every stage. No surprises.
Do I need to be home for the inspection or quote?
For the initial inspection, we do ask that all homeowners be present if possible. Our inspections are detailed and thorough, and they often lead to important decisions, like brick matching options or choosing between repair approaches. Having everyone involved from the start means nobody's left out of the loop. For the work itself, you don't need to be home. We just need access to water and power. The majority of our projects are completed while the homeowner isn't on site.

Our Crews
Do you use subcontractors?
No. Resurrection Brick uses its own in-house masonry crews. These are the same crews we've worked with for years, and they are not subcontracted out to whoever's available. Our team members are experienced masons who know exactly how we work and are held to our high standards for both craftsmanship and customer service. When you hire us, you get us.
How experienced are your masons?
Very. We've been in the brick industry for over 20 years, and many of our crew members have been with us throughout. Masonry is a skilled trade; laying brick well takes real experience, and we only work with people who have it. Every crew member understands that their work represents Resurrection Brick, and we hold that standard seriously.
Is there a project manager overseeing my job?
Yes. Every project at Resurrection Brick is reviewed by a project manager. They're on-site to make sure the work meets our standards, and they conduct a final inspection before we consider a job complete. You won't be left to figure out if something was done right. We verify it ourselves.
What happens at the end of my project?
Every project ends with a final walkthrough with the homeowner. We go through the work together, answer any questions, and make sure you're completely satisfied before we wrap up. We don't consider a job done until you do.
Cleanup
Who handles cleanup after the project?
We do. Our mantra is simple: we leave a space better than we found it. That means cleaning up all debris from the work area (brick dust, broken material, mortar) before we leave. You shouldn't have to deal with a mess after trusting us with your home.
What about plants, landscaping, or decorations near the work area?
If we believe plants, ornamental items, or landscaping features could be affected by the work area, we'll let you know ahead of time and recommend removing or protecting them before we start. We'd rather flag it early than risk damage to something you care about. Our goal is to leave your property in better shape than we found it, not just the brick.
Brick Matching & Historic Restoration
Can you match brick that's no longer manufactured?
Yes, this is one of our specialties. Many homeowners are surprised to learn that brick from even 20 to 30 years ago is often discontinued. Older brick can be especially difficult to source because regional kilns that made them no longer exist, or the specific clay blends and firing methods have changed. At Resurrection Brick, we work through an extensive network of Michigan's largest brick suppliers to track down discontinued brick. We don't just match the general color. We look for brick with matching pattern variations, color gradients, and surface texture so the repair blends seamlessly with what's already there. Learn more on our Historic Brick Restoration page.
My home is only 20-30 years old. Is it really that hard to match my brick?
Often, yes. Brick that was being manufactured 20 or 30 years ago may have already gone out of production. The suppliers that carried it may no longer stock it, and generic alternatives rarely achieve a true match. That's why you need a specialist, someone who knows where to look and what to look for. At Resurrection Brick, we've matched brick for homes of all ages, and we take the same rigorous approach whether the original brick is 30 years old or 100.
What if you can't find an exact match?
We'll tell you honestly before work begins. In cases where an exact match isn't available, we offer a barrier solution: a design-conscious approach that creates a deliberate, clean separation between old and new brick. Done well, this doesn't look like a failed match; it looks intentional. We work with you to ensure the result is something you're proud of, not just something that covers the damage.
How does the brick matching approval process work?
We source candidate bricks and provide samples for your review before any work begins. You give final approval on the match. We don't lay a single brick until you're satisfied with the selection.
What surfaces can you restore historic or discontinued brick on?
Any part of your home or property that uses brick. We restore brick on home exteriors, chimneys, front porches, walkways, driveways and patios, and more. If it's brick and it's on your property, we can help.

Services
Can you repair my chimney, porch, and driveway, or do I need separate contractors?
You don't need separate contractors. Resurrection Brick handles masonry work across your entire property: chimneys, porches, driveways and patios, walkways, retaining walls, and the exterior of your home. That's the advantage of working with a masonry-specific company. We do it all, and we do it consistently. One team, one standard of work, one point of contact.
What types of masonry work do you specialize in?
Our services include brick repair, tuckpointing, chimney repair and rebuilds, fireplace repair and remodeling, porch repair and restoration, brick paver installation and repair, retaining walls, exterior stone masonry, cultured stone installation, and exposed aggregate. Visit our Masonry Services page for the full list.
What's the difference between tuckpointing and brick repair?
Tuckpointing addresses the mortar joints between bricks, removing deteriorated mortar and replacing it with fresh material. It's often the right fix when the bricks themselves are still structurally sound but the mortar has cracked, shrunk, or started to crumble. Brick repair, on the other hand, involves replacing damaged or missing brick units themselves. In many cases, a project requires both. During your free inspection, we'll identify exactly what your home needs.
Do you work on commercial properties, or only residential?
Our primary focus is residential, but we also work on commercial properties.
Do you do new construction, or only repair and restoration?
Our expertise is in repair and restoration. We specialize in bringing existing masonry back to its best: matching brick, restoring structural integrity, and preserving the character of your home.
Pricing & Payments
Is the full-home brick inspection really free?
